How it works

From storefront to actionable report in minutes

There is one flow, and it is the same whether you are auditing your own store or a prospect's.

01

Install ShopGrade

Add the extension to Chrome and create your account. There is nothing to configure and nothing to connect.

Manifest V3 · free account, no card
02

Visit a Shopify store

Your own store, a client store or any public Shopify storefront. ShopGrade recognises Shopify on its own and stays dormant everywhere else.

No Shopify app, login or admin access
03

Click "Grade this store"

ShopGrade reads the visible storefront and the public signals it can measure: page structure, script load, trust signals, SEO and performance.

Live score first, full report follows
04

Review the action plan

What is wrong, why it matters, how serious it is and what to fix first. Every finding carries the evidence it came from.

Ranked by impact and effort
What a finding looks like

Not a number. A list of things to fix.

Every finding names the problem, explains the risk, shows the evidence it came from and tells you what to change. These three are examples of that structure, taken from an anonymized storefront.

High priority Conversion

Product returns information is not visible near the purchase area

Why it matters
Visitors may hesitate to purchase when return conditions are difficult to find.
Evidence
No return-policy link was detected near the product form or product information.
Recommended action
Add a concise returns message below the Add to Cart button and link it to the complete policy.
Estimated effort: 20 to 30 minutes
High priority Performance

Third-party scripts delay the first thing a visitor sees

Why it matters
The page stays blank longer on a phone, and some visitors leave before the store finishes drawing.
Evidence
4 render-blocking scripts in the document head, none deferred. Two belong to marketing apps that are not needed before the page paints.
Recommended action
Defer the marketing scripts until the visitor interacts, and keep only what the first paint genuinely needs in the head.
Estimated effort: 1 to 2 hours
Medium priority SEO

Product page titles do not contain the words buyers search for

Why it matters
The page competes for a phrase nobody types, so it is unlikely to appear for the searches that lead to a sale.
Evidence
Title tag reads "Product | Store name" with no product term. Gallery images on the same page carry no alt text.
Recommended action
Lead the title with the product term buyers actually use, and describe each gallery image in its alt text.
Estimated effort: 1 to 2 hours
What ShopGrade checks

Six scores, every scan

Store checks based on public data. Each area gets its own 0 to 100 score, and every finding behind it lands in one ranked list.

01 Speed Load time, server response and the weight every third-party app adds to a visit.
02 Feel and response Layout stability, how fast taps respond, and errors a shopper never sees but feels.
03 Mobile experience Viewport handling, legible text and tap targets big enough to hit.
04 Trust and credibility HTTPS, visible reviews, policies, payment icons and secure content.
05 Buying ease Call to action placement, express checkout, shipping clarity and purchase friction.
06 Findability Headings, metadata, structured data and alt text: whether the store can be found at all.

Accessibility indicators are automated checks, not a legal certification or legal advice.

Inside the report

What you actually receive

The report is the product. Here is what is in it, in the order you read it.

Section 1

Overall score and executive summary

The report opens in plain language, not a chart. It says what kind of shape the store is in and what is most likely holding it back, then counts the findings by severity.

Free reports include this section.

Section 2

The priorities, ranked

Everything found is ordered by how much it is likely to matter against how much work it takes. You start at the top and work down, instead of deciding for yourself which of thirty observations to act on.

Section 3

Every finding carries its evidence

Each item shows what was found, why it matters, the evidence behind it, which page it affects and the recommended fix, along with impact, effort and how confident the check is. You can disagree with a finding, because you can see what it was based on.

Section 4

An action plan, grouped by what to do first

Findings are sorted into fix first, plan next, improve later and investigate. Mark items complete, add notes, filter by impact or effort, and hand the list to whoever is doing the work.

Section 5

Rescan, compare, then share or export

Run the audit again after the work is done. The report shows the new score beside the old one, which findings closed and anything new that appeared. Share a live link, email it, or export a PDF carrying your own branding.

Sharing, email and PDF export are on Pro and Agency. Credit-funded reports get a shareable link with a small watermark. Free reports stay owner-only.

Optional

Put your own numbers behind a finding

ShopGrade will not invent a revenue figure for your store, because it cannot see your traffic or your orders. The calculator lets you enter your own monthly sessions, conversion rate and average order value, and shows what a change of a given size would be worth against those numbers.

The output is arithmetic on the inputs you supply, not a prediction of what fixing an issue will earn.

The difference

The same audit, minus the assembly

Auditing a Shopify store by hand is not hard. It is just long, and the result is scattered across tabs, documents and slides.

Recording Copy observations into documents Findings are organized automatically

Proof

Judge it on the output

ShopGrade is new. Rather than fill this section with testimonials nobody gave and numbers nobody can check, here is the report itself.

Product proof

A complete sample report, open to anyone

The findings, the evidence, the scores and the action plan, on an anonymized storefront. No account, no email, no form. If the report is not useful, nothing else on this page matters.

Customer proof

This space is deliberately empty

We do not have testimonials we can attribute to a named person at a named company, so we are not going to print any. When we do, they will look like this, with the name, the role and the specific result.

Privacy and permissions

Designed to inspect stores, not access private business data

ShopGrade reads a public storefront the same way any visitor's browser does. It stays dormant until you consent, and it does nothing on pages that are not confirmed Shopify storefronts.

  • Never accesses customer ordersOrders live behind the admin, which ShopGrade cannot reach.
  • Never accesses payment informationNo form values, passwords, private messages or network request and response bodies are read.
  • Never modifies the storeShopGrade only reads. It does not write to a store, change a theme or submit a form.
  • Reports stay private unless you share themFree reports are owner-only and cannot be shared at all. Every report expires automatically 15 days after generation.

FAQ

The questions people
actually ask first.

Everything worth knowing before you add it to Chrome.

Contact us
Is ShopGrade a Chrome extension?
Yes. ShopGrade is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension. You install it in Chrome, open a public Shopify storefront, and run the audit from the extension popup. Reports open in your browser and are also available in your account.
Does it require access to Shopify admin?
No. ShopGrade reads the public storefront the same way any visitor's browser does. There is no Shopify app to install, no store login and no admin access. It cannot see orders, customers or payment information.
Can I grade a store I do not own?
Yes, for any publicly accessible Shopify storefront. This is how agencies audit prospects before a call. You remain responsible for using the report lawfully and for respecting the store's terms and rights.
Which Shopify pages are analysed?
The homepage and a product page today. Category and cart pages are on the roadmap. ShopGrade needs to confirm Shopify from domain, asset and theme markers, so password-protected or blocked pages cannot be audited.
How long does a scan take?
The live score on the toolbar appears as soon as the storefront loads. A full report usually takes a few minutes. The exact time depends on the storefront, your connection and whether your plan includes the AI review.
Can I rescan after making changes?
Yes. Run the audit again and the report shows the new score beside the previous one, which findings you resolved and anything new that appeared. A rescan is a fresh report, so it uses one report generation from your monthly allowance.
Are the recommendations generated by AI?
Partly, and the report labels which is which. The measurements, storefront checks and SEO checks are deterministic. On Pro, Agency and credit-funded reports an AI review reads captured screenshots of the homepage and a product page and writes the conversion findings from what is actually on the page, rather than from generic advice. Free reports contain the measured findings without AI or screenshots.
How are scores calculated?
The 0 to 100 score combines weighted checks across performance, page structure, script load, trust signals and SEO. Every finding shows the evidence behind it, so you can see what moved the score rather than taking the number on trust. Results vary with device, network and page state, so two scans of the same store will not always match exactly.
Does ShopGrade modify my store?
No. ShopGrade only reads the public storefront. It never writes to the store, changes the theme, installs anything or submits forms.
Can agencies add their own branding?
Yes, on Pro and Agency. Your logo, brand colour, agency name, a prepared-by line and your own call to action appear on every report and PDF export. Credit-funded reports can be shared but carry a small ShopGrade watermark, and Free reports cannot be shared at all.
What information can report recipients see?
A shared report shows the findings, the evidence, the scores and your branding. It does not expose your account, your other reports or anything else about your workspace. Reports expire automatically 15 days after generation, and you can delete one immediately from your account.
Does it work on stores that are not on Shopify?
No. ShopGrade is built for Shopify specifically, which is what lets the findings point at themes, apps and Liquid rather than at a generic web page. On any other site the extension tells you the page does not appear to use Shopify and does nothing else. Other platforms are on the roadmap.
